I experienced a 'fly away' while attempting to get some footage of Tarbert Castle on Loch Fyne in Scotland. Fortunately I had practised with 'Find My Drone' at home – just flying from one area to another well out of sight and landing – then using the different Find My Drone settings and the stored video of its final moments to make my way to the drone. I knew the drone had heading off into a nature reserve abut 200 metres away and after an initial panic reminded myself that I 'had done this before'! Very like your scenario the drone was in dense undergrowth with bracken up to eye level (and a fence to climb). Made my way to until until the map and satellite view showing I was on top of it – but no sign. Remembered 'Flash and Beep' and heard it straight away – my foot was inches from it! Lesson clearly that practicing beforehand had definitely saved the day. Thinking about it afterwards the map showed a path very close to the crash site and if I'd followed that I would have avoided a lot of 'off piste' bashing through undergrowth – another lesson learned – plan the route first. …and by way of follow up, reported the flyaway to DJI who were very helpful and replaced the Neo under warranty even though I have 'Care Refresh'. Thanks for the excellent video and hope my experience helps others too.
not mentioned that this beeping is only when the drone has still power (which depends how long you flew will be some minutes) Coming back next day does not help…only at that moment you are there ….. and the battery did fell out
Have used it twice in my time flying drones. First time I had an IMU failure on my Mavic air, find my drone took me straight to it. Second time my NEO had a fly away, find my drone again took me straight to it.
People wonder why a drone pilot carries a machete. This is why!
Luckily, I had attended, 1. a 3-day course, 2. a 5-day course learning regulations, details on the controllers and 3. a 7-day course to finally getting a certified pilot license through exam.
I crashed my dji neo amongst some trees flying away from an eagle that suddenly appeared chasing my neo. I switched control to sportmode try to fly fast zig zagging my way back as the eagle was flying like US B-2 steath bomber. The battery level called for RTH and started switching to RTH and I tapped the RC screen to override it as my RTH height was set at 40 meters where the eagle can easily grab it. I managed to override it but I must continue to zig zag it back with the gimbal at 90° downward so that I know the exact location where it will drop. My recording was still ON and I managed to do screen recording. It was still flying above the trees when finally the battery called for landing.
It took me less than 5 minutes to locate it amongst the tree leaves on the tree branch at 5 to 6 meters height with Locate my drone feature then I went back to get my 8-meter telescopic fruit picker to pick it out. Luckily, we were taught of all those features on the RC.
That was a close save from the eagle. If the eagle grab it, I'm sure, the drone will be too far to locate and probably badly damaged as the eagle will peak on it 😅😅
I use my other drone to find my lost drone sometimes
How do you see where the drone was when you went to your house because you have to have the drone with you to see the download videos, right?
Thanks for sharing ❤
Just subscribed, might be picking up the Neo and have found your videos interesting and useful. Keep it up!
New drone user here, good to see the find my drone actually being put in to use. I also I live in your area 👍
No credit for helping you film or use of some footage. Great mate you are😂
Great Video – what video editing software do you use? I'm currently using Filmora.
