On Scorpion cvr- t we had a canister round, basically a 76mm shotgun round made with layers and layers of tungsten rods cut into pieces like a slice up pencil and packed into the top of the ammunition case.
Designed to fire at infantry close range and also to fire at your own tanks if they were at risk of being overrun as happened to my old regiment in Korea.
They are not armour defeating so they are fine to fire at a friendly tank but will spoil your sleeping bag and tool bins.
I can’t help wondering why the British 76 and canister round hasn’t been brought back into production.
It’s easy to fit to a 113 like the Aussies used to and it’s perfect for anti drone work.
I have seen what it does on firing demos etc with oil barrels filled with coloured water.
It’s like a huge shotgun with a large cone of fire.
The 76 was a good little gun.
Ireland still uses it on Scorpion.
Time to get it back into production for drone work although it would mean engaging the drone at very close range but nothing will get it.
Very good for massed infantry attacks too.
