How to Get Remote ID for a Drone?
Obtaining Remote ID for a drone is achieved through two primary methods, depending on your aircraft. If your drone has “Standard Remote ID” built-in from the manufacturer, you simply register it on the FAA’s DroneZone website. During registration, you will provide the drone’s unique serial number, which links your registration to the built-in broadcast capability, making you compliant. For drones without this feature, you must purchase a separate FAA-approved broadcast module. You then update your drone’s registration on the DroneZone portal by adding the serial number of the module, not the drone. This external module must be physically attached to your drone for every flight to broadcast the required identification and location data. Some drones may also become compliant via a manufacturer-provided firmware update, so always check for new software before purchasing a module. Compliance is finalized by correctly linking the appropriate serial number to your FAA registration.
