At long last! A high-performance, highly-automated, speed demon of a helicopter: from Cowan Simulation, the Sikorsky S-76C++, now available exclusively on the MSFS Marketplace for US$37.99 or your local equivalent.

In this detailed review, I take you through:
⚙️ Deep dive into the autopilot systems and how to master them
🕹️ A cockpit tour and smooth flight tutorial
🛫 What the S-76C++ is built for: oil rig ops, corporate charters, air ambulance missions
🧠 Why this helicopter is perfect for simmers coming from airliners

  1. Maybe the developer could have used a different registration in place of G-BJVX. Look it up if you want to know why I think so. Also, the C++ does not have a double bifilar, the weights on top of the main rotor to counteract vibrations. 1 was removed during the development of the A+ variant if memory serves me. Looks nice though

  2. Hi Matthew! This is a fantastic review and tutorial, delivered in your usual relaxed but highly informative style. Having watched and enjoyed the review, I plan to replicate your flight myself. Thank you for all the time and effort taken to make it for the community!

Regarding your comment about changing the transponder to ALT mode (at 37:00), I suspect that the functionality is as intended by CowanSim because I believe they have simulated a later model S-76C++. My reading on this topic indicates that early S-76C++ models often had a single Collins TDR-90 Mode C transponder (with ALT mode to transmit altitude). However, later production models were equipped with dual Collins TDR-94D transponders, equipped with ADS-B Out (Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast) capability, which transmits the helicopter's position and altitude. Thus, no ALT mode.

The addition of the OEI (One Engine Inoperative) scenario on final approach was a welcome bonus. Apparently the real helicopter has a OEI Training Switch (not the same as the ENGINE OUT TEST switch) that gives pilots the necessary cockpit indications for N1 and torque, making the training feel like a real emergency situation but protecting the engines from unnecessary wear.

Thanks again, Matthew, great job! John on the Sunny Coast 👍👍👍

  3. What a fantastic review! This airframe is getting a second life through your detailed review. I am very pleased to see someone really take their time to give this machine the introduction it deserves. Outstanding Job! I hope we see more of such complex Helicopters, especially after all the conversion to 24 is done, gives the devs more time again.I hope the future releases of the dauphine and potentially the gazelle bring this level of complexity with them. Yes i did think so too the nose could have been a little longer and sharper….. maybe maybe it will get a nose job for 24!

  4. Hi Matthew – I find your videos very informative and well constructed for a great end user experience. Please can you share the full specification of your computer and what software do you use to record your gameplay? Finally, do you apply your voice realtime when recording or when you playback the video? Thanks.

  5. Do the trim buttons “trim” when not in AP? Or are you using the cyclic more? Great video; and happy things went belly up. Mainly because I wanted to see another ILS landing. My second attempt was better than the first

  6. When you do your ILS App you are going to want to be at 91 knots or less as I believe it like almost all helicopters the S-76 is certified as Category A. If you look at the bottom of the approach plate you will see this is important as vis/ceiling requirements may be different.

  7. When you compare this helicopter with the H160 from HPG. Would you say the depth of systems, depth of autopilot, flight model accuracy is better, similar or worse?
Or compare the overall package you get with the helicopter.

Both helicopters are in real life competitors as they have the same size and capabilities.

I have the H160 already in use and wonder if the S76 would be any additional benefit for me?

  8. Great review, I didn't even know that the floats work. Saw somebody test it in the beginning and nothing was happening, so just assumed it's only the function without visuals. It's an aircraft that you never stop learning:D
