Shots at Chinese Drones; The situation can become confrontational
Taiwan has shot down a Chinese drone for the first time. The military command of the self-governing island nation of Taiwan said this in a statement.
A total of three “civilian drones” flew over three different locations in the skies over Taiwan’s Kuimoi Islands, also known as Kinmen, the military command said. A drone flew again over the coastal island of Erdan, just 4km from the mainland city of Xiamen in Fujian province, despite repeated warnings. The Taiwanese military then opened fire to repel the returning drone, which had left international airspace and was flying towards Xiamen.
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen decided to shoot at the drone. He clarified that Taiwan will take “necessary and strong countermeasures” to protect the airspace. Earlier, Taiwan retaliated by sending warplanes in response to Chinese warplane patrols. But this is the first response by shooting.
This made it clear that Taiwan would not accept Chinese aggression. Although China has not yet opened its mouth on this matter. However, Beijing dismissed the claim of Chinese drones circling Taiwan’s territory on Monday. Since US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, tensions in the region have reached a peak
