On Tuesday night, August 10, Russia faced a massive drone attack. The attacks began on Monday evening and increased in intensity in the early hours of Tuesday night.

The drone strikes were one of the largest since the start of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Russian territory, the Russian state agency Tass reported.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that its air defense systems had destroyed and intercepted 144 Ukrainian drones, including 72 over the Bryansk region, 20 over the Moscow region, 14 over the Kursk region, 13 over the Tula region, eight over the Belgorod region, seven over the Kaluga region, five over the Voronezh region, four over the Lipetsk region and one over the Oryol region.

Russian media outlets, including RBC, described the attack as “one of the most massive attacks of all time.”

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at least 14 drones targeting the capital were shot down in Ramenskoye, Podolsk, Domodedovo, Lyubertsy and Kolomna districts. According to the Russian state news agency Tass, there was one fatality and several people were injured.

Flights were also halted at Moscow’s Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo airports. Videos of drones flying in the sky at dawn were shared on social media channels.

Flights have been suspended in Moscow due to drone strikes in many parts of Russia.

In the latest attack, parts of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) found on the runway of one of the capital’s airports were said to be the responsibility of Ukraine.

According to local media reports, Moscow’s Zhukovsky, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports were closed due to the drone attack.
