Ukrainian drones have struck a Russian armored train involved in an attempted assault on Saturday, local media reported, citing the 152nd Separate Chasseurs Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In a video posted on Facebook, the brigade shared the video of the strike. “We haven’t shot down a locomotive yet. But everything happens for the first time. The crew of the Asmodeus,” the brigade posted alongside the video. Footage from the drone camera showed it approaching an armored train and then
flying under the locomotive and detonating. It hasn’t been revealed where the train was hit. Kyiv Post publication quoted an unnamed Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance officer as saying that the train was likely operating close to the “zero” front line. Speaking to Kyiv Post on condition of anonymity, the officer called the footage “truly unique,” adding that “This is a kind of greeting from World War II.” “Previously, armored trains were used to conduct cannon fire. But in today’s warfare, using a train like this is about as effective as using pack animals on the battlefield,” the source stated. Kyiv Post speculated that Ukrainian forces might have used a Mavic drone equipped with an infrared camera to locate and track the armored train, after which a kamikaze drone carrie out the strike. Ukrainian army has ramped up attacks on Russian military and logistic targets in Ukraine and Russian territory.
