Ukraine’s Cardboard Kamikaze Drones – Still Taking Out Tanks Without GPS!

The Australian-designed Precision Payload Delivery System (PPDS), a cost-effective cardboard drone initially intended for resupply missions, has been repurposed by Ukraine as a kamikaze weapon. Despite its simple construction, the PPDS utilizes advanced GPS-denied navigation software, ArduPilot, enabling it to strike targets deep within Russian-occupied territory, even amidst intense electronic jamming. In August 2023, a swarm of PPDS drones inflicted significant damage on a Russian airbase in Kursk, destroying valuable military assets at a minimal cost. Its low cost, ease of assembly, and near invisibility to radar make it a potent and scalable weapon in the Ukrainian arsenal, prompting the development of a heavier lift variant with increased range and payload capacity.
