Russian Drones Strike NATO Again

Russian drones have hit Latvia and Romania. Both were presumably intended for Ukraine with NATO saying they don’t think it was intentional. A lot of questions have been raised as to why neither country shot them down. Poland had been planning to shoot down Russian missiles that flew into their airspace but Tusk says that certain allies are recommending they use restraint. Saying that if there is no threat then it’s not aggression. It makes sense why individual countries don’t want to get involved in the war. What doesn’t make sense is why they won’t defend their own airspaces from this “gas station masquerading as a country”. Iran has now sent short range ballistic missiles to Russia, enabling them to bomb Ukraine even more. Currently they drop 4,000 bombs a month. Russia has also begun engaging in double-tap strikes – so they fire a missile at a civilian target, then they wait for the rescue crews to arrive and then they strike them. And in addition to that Russia continues to execute surrendering Ukrainian soldiers, along with beheadings. They have been filming these war crimes and posting them, with a UN investigator saying that there have been many of these executions that it’s entirely believable that Russian leadership may have given a no quartering order. Which again, Putin is already wanted for war crimes by the ICC but you can add this to the wanted poster. Ukraine has responded to this by not yet sinking to Russia’s level but instead by no longer allowing Russian POWs to call home.

  1. The easy answer is that this is a proxy war that NATO doesn’t want to spill over but wants to funnel money into weapon defense sector. RUS wants this also and some land from UKR. Also RUS wants to get rid of their prisoner population because its too expensive to upkeep.

  2. You don’t shoot down none threats for two reasons. One you take and study the technology for counter measures and possibly reverse engineering. Two it’s a waste of ammunition you might need.

  3. Russia is a lot more than a gas station, just to get that out of the way. They have always been playing games with the US and it’s not surprising that they would test the waters with their other neighbors as well. You actually pointed out why they didn’t protect the airspace and it sounds like you don’t even realize it. They don’t want to get involved.
