Russian army refused tank attacks in Ukraine, reason is drones, which became “angel of death”

Russian occupiers very often use tanks as artillery. Viktor Petrovich, a serviceman of the 77th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this on air at Kiev 24.

Answering a question about the situation in the Kharkiv region, in the Kupyansk district, and the latest enemy attacks, he said that there had been several assaults using equipment recently.

“But with the use of a small amount of equipment, compared to previous periods, when the enemy could use 10 or 20 units of equipment. These were columns with a large number of armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, which covered, in particular, tanks,” the serviceman noted.

At the same time, over the past month, after the destruction of a significant amount of Russian occupiers’ equipment, they are not using large formations in assaults.

“That is, two or three units of equipment. They don’t go out any more… I mean, military armored vehicles. Not some of these golf carts. Or some cars and the like – what they also use,” Petrovich said.

When asked about the enemy’s use of tanks for attacks less recently and their use as artillery, he noted that it is not always a question of “dug-in” positions. The serviceman said:

“A tank can simply drive out, fire off its ammunition and then hide in its “buried” place. Where it is covered, where it is hidden from the “eyes” of the sky. Well, and, accordingly, where it is in relative, let’s say, safety. That is why tanks are very often used like this – precisely as artillery.”

He explained that this is happening because “there are a lot of FPV drones, and despite the use of electronic warfare it is still possible to bypass this electronic warfare.”

“And when the enemy approaches, when he storms using tanks, then as he approaches, he enters a zone in which FPV drones are easiest to use for destruction. That is, if you need to fly somewhere in the rear, 5 kilometers, for example, or 10 kilometers, where the tank is hiding, or where it has a firing position, it is much more difficult, because there is a lot of electronic warfare along the way. And accordingly, you need a high-quality drone, a large battery for the drone, to fly further,” said Petrovich.

Thus, he noted, when an enemy tank moves closer to the front line, then, accordingly, the pilots do not have to fly far: they find themselves near the tank in literally one or two minutes.

“Accordingly, it is covered by the electronic warfare system only by its own, which fits in it… on top of it. It is covered only by this electronic warfare system, not by any other hidden electronic warfare system or stationary one. And, accordingly, it is much easier to destroy it,” the serviceman explained.

He also noted that it happens that an FPV drone destroys electronic warfare systems installed on a tank or other equipment.
