At least four people have been killed in an overnight missile and drone barrage against Kyiv, days after President Putin promised to retaliate over an audacious Ukrainian attack on Russian strategic bombers.

Vitali Klitschko, the capital’s mayor, said that 20 people were also injured, with 16 receiving treatment in hospital. President Zelensky said that more than 400 drones and 40 missiles were used in overnight attacks on Ukraine.
President Trump said on Wednesday that Putin had told him “strongly” in a telephone call that Moscow “would have to respond” to Ukraine’s drone strikes on strategic bomber aircraft at airfields deep inside Russia on Sunday.
Kyiv residents reported booming explosions, and damage was caused to the metro by a strike that hit tracks between two stations. The state railway system also had to reroute trains because of damage to rails.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city administration, said that falling debris had caused fires in several districts as air defence systems tried to intercept incoming drones and missiles
