India’s defence landscape is evolving with the introduction of Rudrastra, a cutting-edge Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) combat drone developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited in Nagpur. Rudrastra can take off like a helicopter and fly like a jet, eliminating the need for traditional runways.
Designed for surveillance, autonomous missions, and precision strikes, Rudrastra features a hybrid propulsion system that combines vertical lift motors and fixed-wing engines, enabling operations in remote, rugged terrains including deserts, forests, and high mountains.
The drone boasts a mission radius of over 50 km, a total range of 170 km with loitering capability, and an impressive flight endurance of 90 minutes. Rudrastra is equipped with GPS navigation, autonomous route planning, real-time video transmission, and high-resolution sensors, making it perfect for border surveillance and enemy tracking.
What sets Rudrastra apart is its precision strike capability. It can deploy smart anti-personnel warheads that detonate mid-air, maximizing damage through wide-area airburst effects while staying out of enemy airspace.
The Indian Army is preparing for large-scale deployment of Rudrastra, especially in desert and mountainous warfare zones. This drone is a key milestone in India’s push for defence self-reliance under Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Rudrastra represents India’s entry into the next generation of drone warfare—delivering precision, autonomy, and indigenous technological strength in a future where unmanned systems will dominate the battlefield.
