Researchers at Zheijang University in Hangzhou have trained a drone swarm smart to fly autonomously through an unfamiliar forest, without a centralised control system.

Footage shows them able to follow a human target, avoid human interference and avoid obstacles at speed. The drones use onboard sensors, which detect and process and then share that information with the swarm.

Experts believe they could be used for aerial surveying and disaster response.
