Drone Video of 788 Straits Road’s Main Residence and "Camp up Top" with Lake and Mountain Views

Set back from a lightly traveled bend in the road, “Haven” is a distinctive 213 acre historical property showcasing a restored 1700’s antique cape.

With its own pond and deeded access to nearby Forest Pond, Haven stretches from its gated entrance and private drive across a sprawling lawn of nearly 4 acres.

Haven encompasses 4 lots of record and reaches across woodlands, stream and clearing to its cedar “camp up top”. Perched at one of New Hampton’s highest elevations, the camp has astounding mountain and lake views. The 5000+ sq. ft. main house is composed of two side by side 1700’s capes joined as a single residence. A spacious kitchen wing is in the rear. A guest wing with large rooms & a 3 car garage connects to the main house via a screened breezeway. With 7 fireplaces and stoves, the stunning period detail will bring to life the Colonial era, while the home’s updated infrastructure provides modern comforts. Haven’s private pond teems with life during the summer.

Enjoy feeding the painted turtles & catfish from its picturesque peninsula island. Listen to the bullfrogs on summer evenings. 1 mile + of double track trails run through the woods for hiking or ATV excursions. The reconstructed 1780 post & beam barn offers plentiful space to store farm equipment or exotic cars and has potential as a horse barn. Plenty of room to add a pool tennis court, more gardens or to restore farm land by the picturesque stone walls. A captivating property!
Located at least three quarters of a mile from the main residence at the rear of the property stands a secluded cedar cabin, which is seated on a ledge of Kinsman granite. The cabin is reached via a private woods road, accessible from Straits road via a separate gated entrance, and may require a four wheel drive vehicle.

The cabin measures 16’ x 24’ 8” with an 8’ x 24’ 8” porch. It includes a bedroom, living area and a loft with additional beds. Electricity is provided by an ultra-quiet Honda remote start generator located in the sturdy “privy” outbuilding, which is made from 1800’s reclaimed wood frame and siding. The cabin stands on tall wooden piers with 2” x 10” floor joists and floors, the walls and ceiling are fully insulated, and the entrance has a heavy wooden door. Interior walls have cedar boards; the floor is pine, and a Glenwood parlor stove with a metalbestos chimney stands on an antique brick hearth. An alternative heat source can be electric heat, and the cabin receives plentiful sunlight if one is interested in installing solar panels. There is a water cooler for hot and cold bottled water and gravity fed water for the sink. The cabin represents a “get away” structure that is an attractive retreat or artist’s studio, with the windows and rear porch offering a panoramic view of the lakes and mountains. The ever changing kaleidoscope of views coupled with the silence and remoteness is a rare luxury in today’s world.
