@FlyZipline, a company founded in 2014 has made drone delivery a reality. Zipline counts over 100 Million Miles Flown, 1.4 Million Deliveries Made, and 14.6 Million Items Delivered.
Not by waiting on burgers and burritos for US consumers (yet) but by delivery key medical supplies in rural Africa. Zipline’s success translates directly to lives saved. This really is not the typical billion-dollar startup.
What makes Zipline even more impressive is that they are vertically engineered and locally operated. They design and engineer their own hardware, write their own software including autonomy and even business systems for routing and logistics, and operate their own facilities. A truly unique hardware startup.
But… The moment is here. Batteries are more efficient and governments are warming up to trends like quadcopters and evtols. Zipline’s success is coming to the US commercial market and they have been testing relentlessly. Beyond their test sites (all conditions from snow to downpour) Walmart is ready to start in Dallas Fort-Worth, one of the innovating hot beds of this tech.
