Our plan was to film a side-by-side flight test of the new Insta360 X5 versus the older X3—but paramotoring had other plans for us.
Gillian, our lead instructor and an incredible pilot, isn’t one to mess with cameras mid-flight. On her first flight, she only captured stills instead of video. After a quick landing and a settings reset, she went back up—and that’s when the real story began.
Brennan (our filmmaker and my longtime friend) followed, but I accidentally set his X5 to single-lens mode… so, yeah—his footage? Not great. 😅
But Gillian’s second flight gave us 6.5 minutes of absolute gold. Formation flying, incredible angles, and just as Brennan peeled off to check his fuel, her motor failed. She safely landed in a cow pasture—and the whole thing was caught in glorious 5.7K on the new Insta360 X5! Although the brand new camera was drug through the dirt, we aren’t that worried with its swappable lenses.
We wrap things up with a flight debrief with our mechanic Neil.
